Since the year 2001, Ms. Marielle van Essen LLM is practicing exclusively criminal law.
In the year 2001 she was working as a courts clerk at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal.
In 2002 she started working as a criminal lawyer and became partner at Koers & Kruyswijk advocaten on the Prinsengracht, Amsterdam.
In 2003 she joined the well-known criminal law firm Plasman Advocaten in Amsterdam as a independent criminal lawyer with a thriving criminal law practice.
In 2008 she started her own law firm Korver & Van Essen advocaten | lawyers, on the Herengracht, Amsterdam, in the so called Golden Bend. In her firm she leads the criminal law department.
As a criminal lawyer, Ms. Marielle van Essen is involved in the criminal cases of her clients in The Netherlands, but also abroad. These cases are mostly concerning economic and financial criminal matters, fraud cases and money laundering cases.
She assists both individuals and companies.
Furthermore she handles woman trafficking cases, homicide and other cases concerning violence, property crime and the import/export of and trade in hard- and soft drugs in an organizational context or otherwise.
In addition to that, she is specialized in international criminal law and represents the interest of people whose surrender or extradition is requested by another country, or clients who are detained abroad and wish to be transferred to the Netherlands.
Finally, next to criminal law and extradition, Ms. Van Essen is specialized in so called BOPZ cases. In these cases she assists clients who are compulsory admitted in a psychiatric hospital due to an (assumed) mental disorder.
